As we lounged in the tent, 等待ing for 射线 to return with firewood, I told the girls a little story that went something like this:
Once upon a time, there was a boy named 射线 和 a girl named Amy.
When 射线 was a little boy, his family loved to camp, 和 one of their favorite places to camp was San Diego. They stayed at a place called Campland.
故事比那更长— it actually has a plot, 射线 和 Amy meet (though 不 at the neighboring Campland 和 Vacation Village) 和 fall in love 和 vacation with their own family —但是一开始几乎可以总结一下。
Growing up, I stayed in hotels. 射线 camped. And let’s just say we’re both creatures of habit.
Recently 射线 reminded me we actually haven’t camped since before we got married.
But am I? That was the question. With a week-long trip to Yosemite coming up later in the summer, 射线 wisely decided a trial run was in order, 和 booked a night at a campground in 塞多纳 he’d经常在路上羡慕不已。
Camping was fun. No, really, I mean it. I had a good time. We have a ginormous tent, 射线 cooked on the stove I bought him for Christmas, we had a lovely fire 和 roasted marshmallows, 和 now I know that there are some items one should never camp without, namely: PA per towels, PA per napkins (or at least one of the two), plastic cutlery, 和 an air mattress. Also Advil PM.
My favorite person was Ben, the clean cut (very clean cut, bald, actually) guy running the campground. He was very excited when we arrived. 射线 rolled down his window 和 here (basically) 是 what Ben said, pretty much in one breath:
她有新的跟进“What’s your last name?”
实际上,在我们之前’d pulled away, she’d已经喊出来,“You don’t have any hair!”
尽管尽了最大的努力,本还是’t able to control the noise. Shortly before I heard the birds start tweeting Sunday morning, I heard 射线 rustle out of the tent 和 shout, “嘿!
我们用手吃了仰卧起坐的鸡蛋,将脚趾卡在小溪中,看着帐篷里的星星’s roof before 射线 saved us from freezing by putting the rainflap on. It was nice.
I’我必须说我仍然不’t understand why people camp, simply because of the amount of work involved. Oh, 射线 explained, it just seemed like so much work because we only stayed one night. Wait til we camp longer.
Okay, I thought. We came 首页 和 射线 unloaded the contents of his Jeep onto the dining room table, where it all still sits, three days later. Hopefully it will get put away before it’该收拾优胜美地了。
射线 was combing out the fine details of that trip this morning, trying to find a campground that won’当他突然对自己说时,变得如此拥挤,“也许我们应该待在汽车旅馆里。”
“No!” “We’re camping!”
